Clinical Associate Professor & Honorary Consultant Geriatrician

ORCID 0000-0001-7212-8095

Dr Oliver Todd is Associate Professor at University of Leeds and Consultant Geriatrician at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Oly attended medical school at Imperial College London, undertook medical specialty training in London, Edinburgh, Germany, and Zambia and clinical academic training in West Yorkshire funded by the NIHR. His PhD, funded by a Dunhill Medical Trust Research Training Fellowship, investigated the potential role of frailty in the management of hypertension in older adults. His PhD involved the analysis of SAIL data alongside qualitative methods, which included a travel fellowship work with Prof Ken Rockwood at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia.

With funding from the Academy of Medical Sciences initially, and thereafter an NIHR advanced fellowship, he is setting up a new hypertension and falls cohort study linking ambulatory 24-hour BP to routine health and social care data for older adults in Bradford, Edinburgh and Liverpool. This work will investigate whether ambulatory blood pressure measurement can be better used to reduce falls in older adults. This work is mentored by Professor Andrew Clegg (Leeds), Dr Rebecca Hawkins (Leeds), Professor Rose Anne Kenny (Trinity College Dublin) and Dr James Sheppard (Oxford).

Oly is a consultant geriatrician at Bradford Royal Infirmary and together with others, runs an outpatient clinic for falls and syncope.

Oly currently co-chairs @geridata – a European Ageing Data Research Collaboration, which is a special interest group of the European Geriatric Medicine Society. Recent collaborative outputs include the application to older people of routine data, digital health and artificial intelligence.
