Dr Aseel Abuzour
Senior Research Fellow
ORCID 0000-0002-4073-4346
Aseel joined the University of Leeds in 2021 as a Senior Research Fellow in the Academic Unit for Ageing and Stroke Research based at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In her current role, she contributes to the co-development of decision support resources to optimise anticholinergic medication prescribing for older people living with frailty.
Aseel is a registered pharmacist by background, and completed her PhD in the area of Prescribing and Patient Safety from the Pharmacy School at the University of Manchester. Her thesis focused on the learning and clinical reasoning processes of secondary care pharmacist and nurse independent prescribers in the United Kingdom. Aseel has worked at the University of Manchester on a number of projects related to medication safety in pharmacy. This included an NIHR funded project looking into pharmaceutical care complexity screening tools to target the delivery of hospital clinical pharmacy services. In 2018, Aseel was appointed as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Toronto in Canada. Aseel worked on projects related to deprescribing in community and primary care, and medication management through the use of electronic health tools. Aseel returned to the United Kingdom to take up a Research Associate position at the University of Manchester. Her most recent project with the University of Manchester was the development and implementation of prescribing safety indicators in prisons.
