Community Engagement Research Fellow

Mohammed Akhlak Rauf has joined ASR as a Community Engagement Research Fellow. Mohammed will be supporting the Unit to support connections with the local populations fostering reciprocal relationships. Raising the profile and understanding of what we do in the Unit as well as strengthening our relationship with the diverse communities in Bradford is a key focus of this post.

Mohammed completed his PhD in 2023 exploring transitions in coping strategies for South Asian family carers looking after a relative living with advanced dementia. He has PPIE involvement in several academic research projects with various Universities. Having worked on addressing and challenging inequalities, over the last almost 30 years, Mohammed founded Meri Yaadain CiC, a community interest company meaning ‘My Memories’ to raise awareness of dementia amongst the minoritised ethnic communities; gaining him an MBE in 2006 for services to people living with dementia and their carers.
